Artemether Treats Malaria in Both Adults and Children

Artemether is used together with a compound called lumefantrine to treat malaria in both adults and children. The two ingredients are known by the common name anti-malarias. Artemether is resistant to strains of Falciparum malaria.

The compound is considered to be one of the most essential drugs by the World Health Organization. The compound directly kills the malaria found in red blood cells and in some cases it has been used in combination with other drugs to kill parasites of malaria living in the liver.

In some cases, patients are given treatments to eliminate the malaria parasite in the liver and red blood cells. Artemether is also used to prevent malaria. Many countries require that their citizens use artemether when travelling to countries that are prone to malarial infections.

How to use artemether

Side effects of artemether

In many cases, patients experience dizziness, headaches, loss of appetite, fever, weakness, insomnia, vomiting and in other cases abdominal pain.

It is important that you inform your doctor immediately if these side effects persist after stopping the medication. If you experience severe dizziness, fainting or chest pains, seek immediate medical attention.
