Chlorella vulgaris is a spherical unicellular freshwater algae with a diameter of 3-8 microns. It is one of the earliest life on earth, appearing more than 2 billion years ago, and is an efficient photosynthetic plant that reproduces by photosynthetic autotrophic growth and has an extremely wide distribution.

Chlorella is widely distributed in nature, with the largest number of species in freshwater; it is easy to cultivate and can grow and reproduce under heterotrophic conditions using not only phototrophic but also organic carbon sources; and it has a high growth rate, being the only organism among plants and animals on earth that can grow fourfold in 20h, so its application value is very high. The common species of Chlorella are Chlorella proteinacea, Chlorella elliptica, Chlorella vulgaris, etc. Among them, Chlorella proteinacea has high protein content and the highest nutritional value.
