Cryptotanshinone is a diterpene quinone extracted from the dried roots and rhizomes of Salvia miltiorrhiza, family Labiatae. It is a representative component of the lipid-soluble component of Salvia miltiorrhiza, which is effective in the treatment of acne because of its anti-androgenic secretion, killing acne rods and eliminating inflammatory reaction.
