The leaves are ovoid, with serrated edges and a strong odor similar to camphor. The propodeum has long flower spikes with many small lavender lip-shaped petals. Among the genus of mullein, only the flowers of the genus Mucor contain forskolin, and the roots are especially rich in it.
Product source:Coleus forskolin briq. is a genus of labiatae. The whole genus of about 90 species, produced in the eastern hemisphere subtropical regions, mainly in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal and other places. There are six species in China.
Herbs, erect or ascending, ca. 40 cm tall. Stem stout, with four angles and four grooves, branched, villous. Denser in the upper part. Leaves ovoid, lly obtuse or acute, base cuspidate-decurrent into a stalk, margin crenate, nearly fleshy, both surfaces densely tomentose and pilose; petiole 6-15 mm long, densely pilose. Verticillasters composed of 6-10 flowers, mostly arranged in racemes, racemes ca. 2.3-10 cm long; bracts ovoid, ca. 8 mm long, ca. 7 mm wide, caudate-acute at the tip, margins ciliate, outside puberulent, falling off at anthesis; calyx campanulate, ca. 6 mm long, inner surface of throat densely villous, 5-toothed. posterior teeth large, cordate, l mucronate, remaining 4 teeth subtriangular, apex subulate-acuminate, often enlarged and recurved at fruiting; corolla purple-blue, ca. 1.2-1.5 cm, outside sparsely glandular punctate, corolla tube curved downward, gradually increasing in width to 3.5 mm toward throat, limb 2-lipped, upper lip 4-lobed, lobes unequal, lower lip extended, oblong, boat-shaped; stamens 4, included or slightly exserted, filaments connate below middle into sheaths; style exserted. Nutlets rounded, compressed. September.
Product properties:: The extract of Sphingomonas capillaris is brownish powder.
Pharmacological effects:Sphagnum vulgaris extract has good effects on bronchial asthma, congestive heart failure, tumor metastasis, glaucoma, etc. The terpenoids in the whole herb of coleus forskohlii. METHODS: The ethanolic extracts of coleus forskohlii were separated by multiple chromatographic methods, and the structures of the compounds were determined by multiple spectroscopic techniques. Results: Six compounds were identified, including two 8,13-epoxy-14-ene-11-ketone hemiflower alkane diterpenes, 3-hydroxyforskolin (1) and 3-hydroxyisoflower alkane (2); two oleanolane triterpenes, 2α,3β,19α-trihydroxy oleanol-12-en-28-oic acid (3), 2α,3β,19α,23-tetrahydroxy oleanolan-12-en-28-oic acid (4); two oleanolane-type triterpenes, 2α,3α,19α-trihydroxyoleanolan-12-en-28-oic acid (5) and 2α,3α,19α,23-tetrahydroxyoleanolan-12-en-28-oic acid (6), respectively. Conclusion: Compounds 1 to 2 are new natural products, and their hydrocarbon signals were attributed for the first time; compounds 3 to 6 were isolated from this plant for the first time.
